Well, today was my last full day here in Phoenix and it’s pretty bittersweet. I’m excited to go home and see my friends and family, but at the same time I don’t want to leave my new friends that I have made here. Today was an interesting day, we had lunch with the Dean, which I thought was pretty cool. He seems like a pretty nice guy. Then we went and visited 3tv, where we learned about all the different aspects of working in a tv station. We also finally finished our music video! We had to work really hard and fast to get it done, but we did. Everything that everyone has done so far looks really good. This is an experience that I have learned so much from and will carry on with me for the rest of my life.
June 13: Late Nights, New Friendships June 14, 2012
Thorughout this whole experience I have some met amazing people, and made some great friends. We have all tried to share our different experiences that we have had, with each other. From the get go, everyone made instant friendships but there were still different cliques. After our first week, it was brought to my attention that we all had these cliques and that i was part of one, and that I wasn’t getting to know people like the way I would have liked. So throghout this past week, I have really tried to separate myself from my “clique”, and get to know other people, and I have been amazed at all the new friends I have made. One new friend I have made in particular has made our experience here ten times funnier. Khim is the comedian of our group and can always make everybody laugh with no effort at all. I never thought that Khim and I would become close friends, but I am happy that we have gotten a lot closer. Our friendship is not one that is very normal. Our friendship consists of insults and lame comebacks between the two of us. Our freindship is one that is sometimes undescribable. I don’t think anyone alse here has a friendship quite like mine and Khim’s.
June 13: The Failed Golden Hour June 13, 2012
We recently started a new project for one of our broadcast classes. We have to come together with our groups and make music videos. I knew from the start that this would be an interesting experience, especially with the group that I was paired with. Our group consists of; our amazing producer and go to girl Sydnee, the amazing anchor Tatyana, the girl who loves bacon, Khim, the next Ryan Seacrest, Frank, and the sweet and sincere Valeria. We are all work really good together and have been very productive so far in getting our shots for our video since we have little time to do it. One of the ideas for our video was to get Frank singing as the sun rises. So, being the dedicated team that we are, we woke up and four this morning to go get the shot that we needed. Once we were all downstairs, well except for Tatyana because she needed her beauty rest, we set off to the parking garage up the street and got to the roof to set everything up. Once we were up there and had everything set up about to start recording, we were suddenly interrupted by a security guard who told us that we could not be up on the roof shooting because it was private property. We were disappointed and that we shouldn’t get the shots that we wanted, but we couldn’t dwell on it for long because we still needed to get some kind of shot. So, we went across the street and found a really nice spot with rows of trees and the sun rising in the background. Our shoot this morning was very successful and worth waking up early!
Today was a stressful, exhilarating, and overall fun day! I have been stressing over the whole entire weekend about anchoring for Team 1 Newscast, and was still a little nervous when we first started but once I got in there and actually did it, it was so fun! Our news team did such a great job on all of their packages, and put all of their hard work and time into it and it finally paid off! Just wanted to say thank you to Nicole for doing my eye make-up! She did such a great job! And to Sade for putting all of her effort into trying to tease my hair. Us thin haired girls gotta stick together!
We started working some more on our music video projects as well today. Ours seems to be coming along pretty nice so far! We should be finished tomorrow morning sometime so that tomorrow night we can edit it for Thursday afternoon. We started anither projecct tonight as well. Tomorrow night we have to perform radio broadcasts with our morning newscasts, which I am very excited for. I think it’s nice that we are getting to experience all of the different aspects of the broadcasting business. We only have two and half days left :(. Wishing it wouldn’t end so soon, but I’m excited to learn some more before I leave!
June 11: Busy Busy Day! June 12, 2012
As a journalist, today I finally understood what it meant to use your time wisely. When there are so many things to do in the day and not enough time to them all, you must manage your time and put all of the important things first and the not so important things last. One of the best things about this prgram is that you can be yourself no matter what. We all have those moments when we can be silly, Brian Snyder even had a couple of those moments today.
The morning started out pretty cool. We got to go and visit a couple of radio stations. I’ve never really considered being a radio personality before. I don’t even know if I have the personality to be a radio personality, but it has really made me re-think what I would like to do in the broadcasting world. Wesome pretty cool people while we were there, and I have to say The Lady La seemed like such a cool person. The type of person that I would want to be if I were on the radio. After that, Kaley ‘O Kelley came into our class to talk to us, which was pretty cool too. She really opened my eyes up to the fact that now-a-days you just don’t see a lot of sports anchors on the news anymore. So I should really start re-thinking that whole career path. She also said something really interesting, she said, ‘You should never say, ‘I’m going to be a broadcaster out loud.'” That was something that really got me thinking, and I realized that she was right. You never know what can happen, so don;t say you are going to do something and then not to it. You can talk all you want, but actions speak louder than words.
Then it was time to edit our packages and get them all finished up for tomorrow’s broadcast! It actually wasn’t as bad as I thought it would. I was a little nervous because I had never put a package together before, but I’m proud of myself because I actually did it and finished it. Now on top of our newscast, we have another little project that we have to work on. We get to make music videos! Which is pretty awesome if you ask me. The only problem is that we have to do it on our own time, which we have very little of. I am however, very excited for this new challenge, along with all of the other challenges that I am sure will be thrown our way before this week ends. Learning more and more everyday! Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
June 10: Phone call with my favorite little girl! June 11, 2012
Being at SJI has been such an amazing experience so far! It has really opened my eyes to what it would be like if I were to go to school at ASU, ten hours away from my hometown. It has been nice because my mom has been in town with me the whole time. I am however missing my dad, my sister, and one very special little person. Back home, I have a little cousin who is little version of myself. I call her my little mini me :). She is always with me, doing everything we can together. I know it sounds a little weird, especially, since she is only 6 years old! She goes to my basketball practices with me, we go to my best friends football games, and baseballs gams. Anything you could think of best friends doing together, we do it. I’m not just saying this because she is my little cousin, but she is probably one of the smartest people I have ever met! Anyway, I finally got to talk to her tonight, for the first time in over a week and it was the best phone call ever! And if you are wondering, yes I am a crybaby, so when she first starting talking and telling me about all the things she had done, and how she told me that she didn’t want me to move here for college because she misses me so much I did start to tear up a bit. I’m counting down the days until I see her again, but I don’t want SJI to end just yet!
June 9: Exhaustion June 10, 2012
Surprisngly enough, I am actually missing my daily running workout. I’ve come to the realization that I actually enjoy running. So today, since we got to go home for the weekend from SJI and we are staying with my aunt I decided that I would go run. The only problem with that was, it was 103 degrees outside when I actually went running. A word of advice, never go running when it is that hot outside, and if you are going to, always remember to drink water afterwards. For some reason after I finished running, I didn’t think to drink any water. So without really knowing it, I got some what dehydrated. It wasn’t anything major, it just made me exhausted. So then when I tried to go shopping with my aunt, my mom, and grandma I could barely walk from the parking lot into the actual mall with out being exhausted. No one worry though, I was still able to to do some shopping :). I learned my lesson the hard way, but at least I learned something new today.
